Bucks and The Secular World

So, my friend here in Fort Myers lives in this apartment complex that is meant for college students – rent is cheap and you don't really have a say over your roommate. He has been without a roommate for almost two months. Two weeks ago, he got this foreign roommate that threatened him, so that guy was kicked out.

After my arrival, he found out that they were going to put someone else in this 3 bedroom apt. That happened today. The guy is pretty cool and moved his stuff in while Jon and I took off for the afternoon. More on this later.

After a good lunch and a stop for me to get reading material for my forever long travel day Wednesday, we went to this sports bar down the street to watch the Bucks play. It was a GREAT game shared with many older people. The bar was apparently based on people from Indiana due to the IU and Notre Dame banners hanging from the ceiling. They even had half the place blocked out for Irish fans. At the end of the game, there was an 8 year old-ish boy who had a OSU jersey on. Someone had a Bucks banner and his mom tied it around his neck and let him run through the Irish room. It was funny. Afterwards, Jon and I came back.

We've learned that his new roommate, Steve, had moved into this complex because he broke up with his live-in girlfriend. Here comes sheltered Kevin. I kind of understand the thoughts behind the "advantages" of the live-in significant other. I see the "benefits." However, I've made some financial decisions in my past that were relationship based that ended up getting me in the end. So, I can't imagine having all this trust bestowed and no real commitment. So, Steve and his girlfriend have broken up because they just don't seem themselves on the same path. BUT (always a big but), they still see each other and she even came over tonight and is probably just gonna stay.

What?!?! I have been to the point of breaking up with someone I cared about. The last thing I would think of is, "Oh, let's just keep seeing each other as friends." Yikes. Am I alone on this? Is it just that I'm this sheltered? I don't know. Feel free to comment.
