I love my church, don't get me wrong. However, due to its size, we seem to be a "launching pad" as I've heard it described before. Let me explain.
We as a church tend to hire staff as interns (like me). They get to spend 3 years of their life working like mad for little pay and get seminary thrown in for free :)
At the end of the time, we are fortunate to hire a lot of them. The others must leave and that is a sad time indeed (especially since this is the usual case). Those who stay get the advantage of being established and work their way into the web of The Chapel more and more.
Within the last month, two of those people have announced that they are moving on. This ALWAYS sucks. We have already said good-bye to one - our producer. He was a great guy with a great heart. He will be missed for his artistic abilities and the ideas that poured out of his head. Some of these are now headed my way (i.e. Xmas Concerts), but that's ok with me.
Last week, we had our executive pastor announce that he only to be voted on by a congregation in TX and he would become their senior pastor in December. This news was a surprise to many and is a bittersweet moment.
He was a pleasure to work for and with. He made great progress with our vision, but now is moving on.
Life will go on at The Chapel, but now we must deal with 2 big holes. God will fill them, I have no doubt. Just sucks for now.
