Suit Day...
As I got ready to go to bed last night, my roommate asked why I was getting my suit ready. My reply was simple, "Working at a church, a suit means one of two things. Either there's an important meeting, or a funeral." Today was the latter. I have been through more than my fair share of funerals in my 23 years of life and none of them, even my grandparents' were as hard as today. A pastor at our church had a beautiful baby boy 14 months ago. His parents named him Noah referring to the miracle that God worked in the Old Testament. This was his name because he was diagnosed pre-birth with spinal bifida. His parents were ready to fight the battle and it seemed he was too. He had great big blue eyes and a very contageous smile. From what I understand, he endured the hospital visits alright, even as an infant.
Several months ago, Noah was diagnosed with brain cancer. Yeah, major blow to everything. Since then, the family basically relocated to the Philly Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald house there. They had many ups and downs, but maintained a hope throughout the process. Tuesday evening, God rescued Noah from this cruel, fallen world and brought him home. Today was the formal ceremony and it was hard to watch many cry, especially hard when your pastor's voice begins to falter.
There are no easy answers to the questions, especially when the questions are "Why?" and "Didn't God hear us pray for healing?" In all of this, we must be ok with saying "I don't know, but I can trust that God does." Trust is such a key.
Well, that was my morning. It was hard to change gears, but life did go on. The rest of the day at work went fast and I looked forward to catching with a high school friend this evening. We spent sometime at Starbucks (I'm growing closer and closer to drinking coffee, but for now mochas are good). Then, caught up with Clark and went to see Stealth. GREAT MOVIE. Phenomenal acting and screenplay. It was finally a movie that the writer didn't get to the last 5 pages of the script and consider his time done and just end the movie - thank you Mr. Richter. Other than that, not much more to today.
Tomorrow, I'm going to Easton to visit Tim and Aaron. Always a good time. Maybe I'll even get to catch up with the Gumms.
